• Prof Donal O'Shea


    Professor Donal O’Shea qualified in Medicine from University College Dublin in 1989. Prof O’Shea moved to Hammersmith Hospital in London and was awarded a Wellcome Trust Training Fellowship to study how the brain controls appetite. In 1999, he moved to his current position in Dublin where he runs a hospital based multidisciplinary treatment unit for the management of adult obesity. He is a member of the Department of Health special action group on obesity established in 2011 chaired the health impact assessment group on the potential benefits and harms of a tax on sugar sweetened drinks. He is also a member of the Healthy Ireland Council. Research interests include immune effects of obesity, diabetes, steroid metabolism, gender identity disorder and thyroid disorders.
